Awaiting the arrival of a newborn baby is an exciting time for the parents as it fills their life with joy. But, what if, the baby is susceptible to critical medical problems in some cases? According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about one in ten babies were born too early in the United States in 2017, a figure that has been consistent in the past. Due to premature birth, babies need special attention and care as they are prone to rapidly losing body heat. For a newborn, neurodevelopment is essential, and thus, Atom’s products are centered around providing an environment similar to that of the womb to nurture the baby’s growth. The Dual, Model 100 incubator offered by Atom is a combination of incubator/warmer enabling easy access of an open warmer, along with the developmental features of a closed incubator. It minimizes noise and touch while maintaining consistent thermal control through a double-walled panel technology.

Atom’s Dual incubator is also designed to prioritize the neurodevelopment of fragile infants. With features such as external Trendelenburg and X-ray, it minimizes the disruption of the thermal environment inside the incubator without disturbing the infant.

Furthermore, the low noise level of 41dBA, not only meets, but exceeds the standard set by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) of 45dBA, making Atom’s Dual incubator supportive of developmental care.

In some instances, a newborn could have a severe and life-threatening illness and may require ECMO therapy. Due to the multiple technologies surrounding the newborn, access for procedures such as x-ray can pose a challenge. ATOM brings a unique solution to this problem with its X-Ray tray that can be accessed from three sides. ATOM’s Model 103 warmer has the largest surface area to accommodate all the necessary equipment and additionally provides the highest actuator for those ECMO machines that still require a warmer to be placed at a high level. It also has a swivel and tilting heater head, providing flexibility to doctors and caregivers to attend to these fragile newborns.

Atom also ensures a way to conveniently transport the baby with two options: The Model V 808 Transcapsule or a lithium-ion power pack solution that can be attached to the Model 103 warmer or the Dual Incubator. In some cases, babies have to be moved from the ER to the NICU or any other room in the care facility. In such scenarios, Atom’s Transcapsule transport incubator or the lithium ion power supply, play a significant role in keeping the babies stable. Furthermore, the temperature probes, tray shelves, and cylinder racks and other accessories are compatible across the ATOM product portfolio.

A factor that separates Atom from its competitors is the combination of easy-to-use software and hardware. The software and the user interface remain the same for the radiant warmer and the incubator. Even though the software and the hardware are easy-to-operate, Atom has dedicated clinicians to train the clinical end-users to build a best-in-class working methodology in the NICU. Further, from the maintenance and cleaning perspective, the incubator has the least amount of detachable pieces, which makes it convenient to clean, which means saving valuable time for the housekeeping staff, along with increasing “up time” for product use.
